A Virtual Evening with Azar Nafisi and Jacki Lyden

Reading Lolita in Theran.  NPR.  In 1995, I became the first broadcast reporter to profile writer Azar Nafisi, at her home in Tehran and at Tabatab’i University. Geraldine Brooks and Jacki Lyden - Kentucky Authors Forum

Geraldine Brooks  and I have friends since the days when we were both young(er) Middle East correspondents for our respective news orgs, The Wall Street Journal and NPR.  It has been fascinating to see her step away from straight reportage into the spellbinding worlds she creates, though always with a strong historical scaffold.  Her memoirs, too, are riveting. Here, we discuss her novel “Horse” for the Kentucky Authors Forum in 2023—a novel of race, class and the start of the American horse racing industry.

Jacki Lyden Moderates with Michael Tomaskey

This interview is in conjunction with  Writers for Democratic Action , where I sit on the national steering committee, and am Wisconsin state co-chair.
